My nana at Rotherham crematorium

Yesterday, the 24th of April 2009, we held a service at Rotherham Crematorium for my nana in celebration of her life of 93 long fun filled years. The service was conducted by Father Matthew Ineson and was attended mainly by relatives and a few friends.nana, rotherham crematorium

I saw my nana at the co-op funeral directors before the service at Rotherham Crematorium which was a little behind schedule due to previous services. The service was well presented by Father Matthew who had also been leading prayers for my nana in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Dalton Parva.

During the service for my nana at Rotherham Crematorium there was an interesting summary of the life of my gran which had been prepared in the majority I believe by my uncle Gerald and Cousin Fiona. I’m sure thought that many others had an input too.

My nana lived from 8th of April 1916 until 12th of April 2009, a fun filled life of 93 exciting years. She was a high achiever in school, but unfortunately for her generation this was not recognised for girls of her generation. This didn’t stop her working hard and enjoying home based activities like knitting soft teddies for all her children and grandchildren.

Father Matthew told us of how she had ridden 120 miles to go to the beach with her husband Sidney on a Tandem with my uncle Gerald in a side car. We left Rotherham Crematorium to go to the wake at The Tabard public house on Herringthorpe Valley Road in Rotherham where we all celebrated the life of my nana.

My nana had 3 husbands, her maiden name was Stoddart, Helena Stoddart, she married Sydney Moss first and had my uncle Gerald and my mother Pamela Anne. Unfortunately Sydney died but my nana has always been a fighter living through the war I think maybe influenced her attitude to life. I never met Sydney so unfortunately can’t add much more about him or their life together. I do know they enjoyed camping and caravanning together very much.

My nana’s second husband was Harry Green, the first granddad I knew, we used to play chess together every time we met. They spent a lot of time in the caravan and dormobile travelling round. Patchie was their dog, a white terrier who they loved dearly, I have some fond memories of Patchie Pie, but the dog suffered ill health in his later years. Harry my nana’s second husband died when they were stewards to a camp site in Wales.

Lol had wanted to be together with my nana, when they married she took his name Rimmington. They had a fun time together caravanning and going to many fancy dress parties. Lol taught my nana to fish on the river Trent and was on occasion embarrassed by her ability to always catch the biggest fishes on the river Trent. I’m sure they enjoyed their time there together caring for their pet donkey being another highlight of their time there.

When my nana lost Lol she found her final partner Reg, they didn’t marry, but I know it didn’t stop them enjoying their time together in their flats in Rotherham and the caravan at Torksey.

I’d like to say thank you to the co-operative funeral service at clyde villas Doncaster Road Rotherham for making sure the arrangements all went well for my nana at rotherham crematorium
