I really think that the resistance caused by loose clothing in the gym would be too minimal to really make any difference to weight loss. I always found the tighter clothing a lot more comfortable as any sweat from a decent workout cools on looser clothing and becomes uncomfortable and can chaf. The tight higher performance purpose wear is very good at preventing this. And from a psychological point of view, wearing decent gear put you in a much better mind set to excercise, just as wearing a great suit for an interview makes you feel that little bit more confident and more aware of your posture (which, of course, has been greatly improved by all the energetic core workouts at the gym). :o)
