Health
Health is of course a very broad subject, however to restrict the scope I am focussing initially (March 2009) on the generalised health promotion and maintianing a balanced lifestyle. This will link in to the other topics of Wealth and Happiness through my explanation of what I mean by a balanced lifestyle and how this can be achieved.
Health promotion starts as soon as we are conceived. A life can be restricted by the actions of a mother before we are even born. If you parents lived an unhealthy lifestyle you will be constantly battling against the impact they have had on you.
A smoker for example will cause deformaiton of an unborn female baby’s placenta. This will cause complications during pregnancy which could include abnormal haemorrhaging during the gestation period or after the birth. This is true not only of the mother smoking but also otehrs who are in close proximity for extended periods of time.
Drug addicts who continue using during pregnancy will result in an addiction passed on to the unborn child. By contrast in this case the mother will affect the child but others in the vacinity will have no impact.
Moving on after birth the environment a child grows up in will affect their health. Not just physically but also their demeanour, mental attitude and physical abilities. You can’t expect a child who has no books to even see never mind read to be able to read and write at a high standard. Similarly why would you expect a child who never walks further than the car to be fit, don’t encourage obesity by not teaching them about physical exercise in a fun way.
From conception to adulthood children have to be taught about how to be healthy themselves. Then when they are old enough to make their own decisions hopefully they will be sufficiently educated to choose a healthy lifestyle for themselves.
